On Monday evening, a deadly car explosion occurred near Delhi's Red Fort, leading to widespread panic and the rapid spread of misinformation. In response, the Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) took immediate action to counter a viral falsehood. PIB posted on social media that a widely circulated image depicting a massive explosion and mushroom cloud was being misrepresented as related to the Delhi incident. However, this image actually dates back to September 27, 2024, showing an Israeli airstrike in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut, Lebanon.

PIB highlighted that certain propaganda accounts on social media were incorrectly linking the old image to the recent Delhi explosion. They clarified that the image was from the 2024 Lebanon incident, not related to Delhi. Misinformation began circulating just an hour after the explosion, which occurred at 6:52 PM near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to over 25 others.
